Cost of Commissioning a Portrait
Fees for portraits vary depending upon the artist selected, the medium chosen and the style and size of the commission.
Here is a cost guide for some of our most popular commissions:
CHARCOAL

Fees for works in CHARCOAL (head & shoulder studies) range from $880 to $1,500+.
PASTEL

Fees for works in PASTEL range from $990 to $3,000+
OILS & ACRYLIC

Fees for works starting with a head & shoulders study in OILS or ACRYLIC range from $1,500+,
a head to waist study from $3,000+, full body study from $5,000 to $20,000+.
These estimates are based on a single figure portrait with a simple background. Depending on the complexity of background and clothing details and if additional figures are to be included (for example a couple or family portrait) fees are negotiable with the artist.
Contract details and payment of fees
Once a commission has been agreed and fee negotiated, all details are confirmed in a letter agreement, a Tax Invoice is issued and a non- refundable deposit of 25% is required. The balance is paid once approval has been given on the finished commission.
Fees quoted include 10% GST but not framing or packaging and freight costs (if required by our country, interstate and overseas clients).
