How to Commission Artwork
Commissioning a portrait or painting with Barbara Higgins is a simple and rewarding experience. Barbara will guide you through the entire process from the beginnings of an idea to the finished commission:
We discuss ideas and show you samples of original work and photographs of previous
commissions.- You select the artist based on style, medium and budget.
- Examples can be selected from this website and images sent to you.
- You meet the artist. We will arrange a meeting between you and your chosen artist to discuss in detail the portrait concept and style, time frame and fee structure. We can also discuss these issues with the artist on your behalf.
- We confirm all arrangements. This is achieved through a letter agreement. Once the deposit is paid, work commences on your commission.
Sittings. One, two, three or more sittings may be required depending on the artist.
Some prefer to work from a single photographic sitting; others prefer to work from life. Many work from
a combination of these techniques. - Commissions without sittings. If the work is to be a surprise or of someone who has died, portraits can be accomplished from photographs. This process also works well for subjects such as animals, houses, interiors and gardens.
- Viewing. When the portrait or painting is completed, a viewing is arranged either in person or by photograph. Final payment is paid when the commission is approved.
- Framing of works can be arranged.
